Do you have a Black Streaky Roof?

You’re not alone!

Millions of homes are affected by what looks like asphalt tar bleeding through their shingles, but what’s really happening is that they are contaminated by a form of black Algae (or fungus) called Gloeocaps Magma. The Roof Algae is more widespread in the southern states, but it is now happening all over North America.

Four things that are usually done when roofs get in this condition…

1. Leave it alone (and it will eventually get worse)
2. Clean it yourself - $
3. Pay to have it cleaned by a Professional Roof Cleaner - $$
4. Replace the roof - $$$$

OR- you could do something else…and in the end it may not cost you a dime!

“A lot of folks have no idea that a lot of asphalt shingles are designed to resist algae, and they could get their roof returned to its original appearance - for absolutely nothing, if they only knew about it”
– Former Roofing Claim Adjuster of Major Roofing Manufacturer

Question – I’ve been told that the algae is eating my shingles, is that true?
Answer – No, but the dark fungus will age shingles quicker because absorbed heat (from being darker) damages most things, especially asphalt.

Question- Will this algae eventually come back after I get it treated or cleaned.
Answer - It may and it may need to be treated again, but because it is nature oriented, there is no way of knowing for sure.

Question – Do I need to send in a full, complete shingle sample to determine if I have algae protection?
Answer – No, a small piece, a new shingle , even granules, we will be able to give you a definitive answer. In order to try to get money back from the material manufacturers, a full, affected shingle sample is needed, however.
